3000 years of longing, 2022, George Miller

Media has its power. As you can deliver many messages with it, how you directed and crafted it together with other people affect its viewers. Subtle but strong messages that only a few can catch were slided in between the narratives of part of Alithea's and Djinn's life.

It's easy to miss the guards holding rifles behind of the audience, when we are emotional about their behaviors.

This movie carries a lot of messages.Narratology is the first one, which examines how the media we are exposed to every day can affect us. And spices it up with another important message, the media surrounding us forms how you think, act, and most importantly, believe. When she landed, she meets a mysterious figure, "affecting" her to meet Djinn.

Between the thousands of stores in the Bazaar, she found Djinn's lamp, brought him back, and by cleaning the lamp, Djinn came back to the world. Before meeting Djinn, she receives a warning from a supernatural figure who appears in Djinn's story with Queen Sheba. In her lecture with her colleague, she tries to explain the meaning of gods as a guide for the old era when people hardly understood the world. Now we are living in the modern world, where the most of the matters can be solved with science and technology. As soon as she finishes her statement, and ignores its presence, which only she can observe, she fainted.

To me, what he says sounded like "Rabbi"

Both Djinn and Alithea lived lonely lives. She weighed more on her scholarship, and on the other hand, he was tied with supernatural powers. Locked in the lamps for thousands of years. The two different kinds in the world finally met after the story of coincidences, who had similar experiences, loneliness, desires for someone to get understood, and pour their love towards.

When she comes back from Istanbul-an exotic place, to London-"modern" and "familiar" world, she opens her eyes again. As she knows how Djinn forms himself, she constantly worries about his existence, and some might noticed that the eerie feeling shown from the beginning, is gone.

In the movie, it was explained by science and technology. Djinn's organs formed with electromagnetic phenomena, thus he can't exist properly in the modern city where all the signals and noises connected like a web. But the movie tries again to show another message, Christianity, a dominant belief in the region. While talking to two neighbors who ridicule her behavior, she feels extreme emotions. Djinn magically disappear and only shows when Alithea gets inside to avoid them. Her belief towards Djinn, getting weakened.

Alithea experiences similar emotions in this scene. Similar ones that she felt in Istanbul with the mysterious figures.

Djinn's story and Alithea's daily life show how the world had been changing. Queen Sheba was seduced by music and Solomon. She lost Djinn while blinded by emotions. Alithea kept her solitary and found peace through love and hope, at a large cost of those who were not in the pictures.

The movie doesn't go deeper into Djinn and Alitea's surroundings. We know that they are surrounded by mostly the same people. The driver taking Alithea and her colleagues to the hotel is the same person as the shopkeeper selling the lamp. The airport supervisor who scares her while she is worried about Djinn, is the same person as Mustafa's Janissary. (IMDB cast)

We often don't register our surroundings
...as we only catch what we can, we "filter" some out. With or without intentions.

While Djinn travels around the modern world, he realizes that, soon, his existence would be explained through science and technology. She expresses her feeling vaguely to Djinn. And tells him that he is "my impossible". And Djinn faces existential crisis, as it's hard not to agree with her. Because he is bound to her through her wish, to love her.

Perhaps, she didn't know it at all. Maybe, she choose not to care as it's hopeless and same as what Djinn told her, hope is a monster. The movie ends with Alithea finishing her book, including the process of forming Djinn in real life, and they walk in a park full of "happy people".

This really looked like Navan, "Emaın Macha", Djinn's realm.
